Santa Ynez Valley Scarecrow Fest
October 10 @ 9:00 am - 8:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 9:00am, repeating until October 31, 2018
The Santa Ynez Valley—home to Santa Barbara wine country on California’s Central Coast—welcomes the fall season as it kicks off the Annual Santa Ynez Valley Scarecrow Fest and Contest on Monday, October 1. The 2018 SYV Scarecrow Fest, for the sixth time, includes the communities of Ballard, Buellton, Los Alamos, Los Olivos, Santa Ynez and the town that started the area’s original Scarecrow Fest, Solvang. The month-long Santa Ynez Valley Scarecrow Fest will run through October 31, during which time visitors and locals are encouraged to play, stay and enjoy the scarecrow sights and many scheduled fall events.
In 2017, the Valley boasted approximately 150 scarecrows, most of which were available for public viewing and voting to determine viewers’ favorites. The Scarecrows, crafted by local businesses, individuals and school organizations, are showcased throughout the Santa Ynez Valley, and the winning scarecrows from each town are eligible for the “2018 Harvest Cup: Best in the Valley” title and trophy. Each of the Santa Ynez Valley towns holds their own, individual Scarecrow Fest and associated Contest; the rules vary slightly from town to town, but all have the ultimate goal of appointing a “Best Scarecrow” to represent each respective burg in the quest for the Valley-wide Harvest Cup trophy.
