Ganna Walska Lotusland celebrated its 25th anniversary as a public garden over the weekend. Its highly anticipated annual gala, Lotus Rising: Lotusland Celebrates Gems of the Garden, was a sold-out affair that took place from 3:30 p.m. to sunset. The gala, thrown in remembrance of its founder, Madame Ganna Walska, featured an afternoon garden walk, cocktails, a seasonal meal, and a live auction.
The garden journey showcased numerous art displays including A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, a series of abstract paintings by acclaimed artist Russell Young, dozens of Pre-Fall and Fall 2018 looks by designer Oscar de la Renta, and a selection of unique and rare plants from the Lotusland collection. Also on display were jewelry design illustrations by Suzanne Belperron, in addition to pieces to be auctioned off later in the night.
During the walkthrough, guests were treated to decadent cocktails and hor d’oeuvres followed by a lavish al fresco summer supper, which included a compressed watermelon salad for starters, a main course of radish and Tuscan squash shingled salmon, and finally, a gardenscape floral citrine tart in a salty graham “dirt” for dessert.
After dinner, guests participated in a lively auction led by world-renowned auctioneer Eliza Osborne, Deputy Director of the Armory Show. Among the auctioned items were the opportunity to host a private fantasy garden party at Lotusland, a Belmond Andean Adventure, a Coco Chanel Diamond Dust Portrait by Russell Young, and a ring by Daniel Gibbings.
