Dachshunds and Labradors and French bulldogs, oh my! Leashed pups of all shapes and sizes excitedly dragged their owners toward the smell of tasty treats and other pooches coming from the bundle of booths sitting directly in front of the Metropolitan Theatre in the Paseo Nuevo Shopping Center  last week. It was Paseo Nuevo’s very first “Pet Pawty,” something the mall had been wanting to host for a while. The event was doggy heaven with all kinds of exciting goods like complimentary treats from Dr. Dalton’s Premium Treats and handmade visors for purchase from Cari Summer’s “Doggy Super-Visors.”

The event was also beneficial for the owners, not only because their dogs were having a blast, but because of the free services provided. Staff members from Vet’s Here were around and available to give free dental check-ups for any dog at the event, and helpful dog training techniques were demonstrated on the event’s small stage every 15 minutes. “This has been even better than expected,” says dog owner, Pat. “Marley got his teeth checked out for free! He also has a new hat. Look at him, he’s a little frazzled from how excited he is to meet all of these new friends!”

Along with the fun, the Santa Barbara Humane Society was also there to promote kindness and to show off Rufus, an adorable black lab that is available for adoption. In support, both the Kōpū Sparkling Water booth and Doggy Super Visors booth donated a portion of their proceeds to the Humane Society.

There was nothing but beaming smiles from both owners and dogs as the party came to a close. Event directors Marina Satoafaiga and Caitlin Werner both seemed ecstatic about the event and hope to make it an annual occurrence for dogs and dog lovers to enjoy in the years to come.
