This spring, Dick and Dolores Kelsey, owners of Kelsey See Canyon Vineyards, welcomed two Albariños into their lives—one in the form of a new summer wine and the other in the form of a rare albino peacock. With an already thriving and popular flock of over 130 peacocks, Kelsey Winery adopted one more member to the pack when a couple from Edna Valley found the white bird on their land and gifted it to the Kelsey Family. Before its release onto the Kelsey property, the vineyard’s social media followers helped name the bird “Albariño”or “Al” for short.
The bird’s debut onto the property was carefully planned to act as a preview for the June 1 release of the vineyard’s newest wine, conveniently also named Albariño. “It’s bright and fruity with a hint of spice on the finish,” says Jane Redmond, tasting room manager for Kelsey. “[…] this wine is a perfect summer white to bring to neighborhood hangouts and beach bonfires.”
