Free summer film series Animated Nights kicks off with the 19th Annual Animation Show of Shows on Friday, July 6 at 8:30 p.m. under the stars at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse Sunken Garden (1100 Anacapa St., Santa Barbara).
Introduced by producer and curator Ron Diamond, himself. The Animated Show of Shows choses the best animated short films from the most renowned animation festivals across the globe and presents them to audiences around the world. The 19th Annual Animation features 16 animated shorts. Films include a newly-restored 50-year-old short Hangman and Dear Basketball, the Academy Award-winning short by Glen Keane, based on a poem by icon Kobe Bryant.
Films are screened Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. at UCSB Campbell Hall and Fridays at 8:30 p.m. under the stars at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse Sunken Garden. The series runs from July 6 through August 24.
The selections this year represents the work of artists from eight countries, including nine women. Funny, moving, engaging and thought-provoking, the Animation Show of Shows not only has something for everyone, but also is a remarkable and insightful microcosm of our world.
For Courthouse outdoor screenings, please bring blankets, low-to-the-ground beach chairs (seat must be no more than six inches above the ground), a picnic dinner and your friends. Filmgoers may begin setting up on the lawn at noon on the day of the Courthouse screenings. Arrive early to find the best spots for this favorite Santa Barbara summer pastime!
