UCSB Arts & Lectures presents the captivating soprano Julia Bullock with pianist John Arida in a program featuring Schubert, Barber and contemporary blues on Tues., April 3, at 7 p.m. at Music Academy of the West’s Hahn Hall
An award-winning vocalist, Julia Bullock has performed as Clara in Porgy and Bess with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in John Adams’ El Niño, in West Side Story at the Hollywood Bowl, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel and as soloist with orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra with Simon Rattle, the New York Philharmonic with Alan Gilbert and the San Francisco Symphony with Michael Tilson Thomas.
A tour de force, local audiences will remember her 2016 Ojai Music Festival debut, which produced “something with the heart… of a masterpiece” (The New York Times), as well as her lauded appearance as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic in the Music Academy of the West’s summer festival. Making her Santa Barbara recital debut, she will prove she is equally at home with opera and concert repertoire in a program featuring Schubert, Barber and contemporary blues.
