The first vintage shop to open in the Santa Ynez Valley is now open. Valerie’s Vintage (1090 Edison St., Santa Ynez) opened its doors in July. The store boasts 25 vendors across 1,740 square feet and is brimming wall to wall with one of a kind antique furniture, home decor, vintage clothing and art.

Owner of Valerie’s Vintage, Valerie Madeira, is a veteran in the antiquing game. She has been on the prowl finding unique goods since she was 19 years old. Her mother was a picker and Madeira kept alive the tradition. Even today, she goes picking with her mom and her husband.

“I love going to flea markets and sales and hunting for hardware, drawing up the next design and watching my husband create my dream piece,’ says Madeira.

Madeira has resided in the Santa Ynez Valley for over two decades. She got her start as a home designer and vintage collecter as a co-host on an arts and crafts TV show, Flea Market to Fabulous. On this segment, she would go to the Rose Bowl Flea Market with a camera crew and they would film her weaving through stalls with her keen eye for fixer-upper furniture pieces. With her creative vision in mind, she would refurbish the piece of television and show her before and after. Now, Madeira has taken this inventive spirit with her into her formation of Valerie’s Vintage.
