The romantic comedy Their Finest, directed by Lone Scherfig, will close the 32nd Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF), which starts on February 1, at the Arlington Theatre (1317 State St.) on Saturday, February 11. The film will be released in theaters March 24.

Written by Gaby Chiappe and based on the novel by Lissa Evans, this film stars Gemma Arterton, Sam Claflin, Bill NighyJack Huston and Richard E. Grant. Produced by Number 9 Films and Wildgaze Films, its executive producers include Christine Langan, Ed Wethered, Robert Norris, Ivan Dunleavy, Peter Watson, Zygi Kamasa and Thorsten Schumacher. Stephen Woolley, Amanda Posey, Finola Dwyer and Elizabeth Karlsen also are credited as producers on this film.

“Lone’s deeply touching film is authentic, funny and depicts the power that cinema has to bring people together and share their stories.  It was the perfect choice to kick off this year’s festival,” Roger Durling, Executive Director of the SBIFF, states.

The film sets in 1940 with Britain devastated by the war. As the British ministry turns to propaganda films to brighten families’ moods at home, they hire Catrin Cole (Gemma Arterton), a female scriptwriter to develop the female dialogue. Immediately noticed by Buckley, the primary scriptwriter, Catrin and him both embark to create a film centering on the Battle of Dunkirk.
