The Hungry Cat Santa Barbara annual summer feast with Local Catch Festival is Sunday, Aug. 30 from 1–7 p.m. Owner/Chef David Lentz and Chef de Cuisine Peter Cham will present a three-course celebratory feast of Santa Barbara’s best seafood, complete with irresistible desserts and the legendary Thirsty Cat bar menu, featuring bar manager Dona Bridges’ newest creation, the Stonefruit Smash.
Course I: cucumber gazpacho with Santa Barbara sea urchin, preserved lemon, pickled shallot, and brioche
Course II: fried local rock cod sliders with shredded lettuce, avocado, and tarragon aioli
Course III: Santa Barbara seafood boil – 1/2 local rock crab, ridge-back shrimp, hope ranch mussels, red potatoes, grilled corn, and drawn butter
Sides (choice of two): little gem wedge salad with shaved radish, bleu cheese dressing, and sieved egg; fried house-made pickles with blue corn meal and buttermilk ranch; or summer squash with garlic, olive oil, lemon, and opal basil
Dessert: summer cobbler prepared with warm market stone fruit, walnut streusel, and vanilla whipped cream; or house-made s’mores with dark chocolate ganache, cinnamon sablée, and vanilla meringue
Chef/Owner David Lentz creates a new American Seafood sensibility, inspired by his Maryland roots, incorporating sustainable, seasonal fish, shellfish and produce into his weekly changing menus. The Santa Barbara location brings it all together with its downtown casual setting, complete with a signature raw bar, and perfectly mixed artisanal cocktails.
