Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA) invites community members to the latest adult art studio class: How Nature Frames the Landscape: Trees & Leaves, Branches & Twigs on Saturday, December 6 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Ridley-Tree Education Center.
Facilitators Joni Chancer and Gina Rester-Zodrow explore nature’s art forms and capture the interplay of natural botanical shapes against colorful backgrounds using acrylic paint and printing inks. Works from SBMA provide illustrations of how various artists integrate the positive shapes (foliage) with the negative space around it to create depth, visual interest, and bold design. Use different techniques to design leafy patterns, branch borders, and sky windows, and explore color and texture, expressive line, repetition of shape, negative space, and the transition from realism to abstraction.
Register online at sbma.net/adultclasses. All class materials are included.
SBMA’s at at McCormick House is located at 1600 Santa Barbara St.
