Earlier this year, local pro surfer Lakey Peterson announced $50,000 in funds raised to provide clean, safe water to the entire island of Rote, Indonesia. The donation is part of a three-year project to provide safe drinking water through the use of five water systems. Work is now underway, as engineers have started the installations of the 2014 filtration systems.

Peterson is part of the Hands 4 Others (H4O) youth-led non-profit, whose mission is to change the world one person, one family, one village at a time by providing sustainable access to safe, drinkable water for those in need. The organization was started in 2008 by several teenagers from the community. Today, the team’s new goal is to help more than two million people in 500 villages around the world by 2015.
