Artist Susan McDonnell has a new exhibition, Curioser and Curioser, a tribute to an Alice in Wonderland quote. This is McDonnell’s debut solo exhibition at Sullivan Goss, running from June 5 through August 31. The opening night is a feature of the June 1st Thursday, June 5th from 5 to 8 p.m.
McDonnell presents a suite of nine exquisitely rendered tempera paintings and two larger works that likewise deal in wonder, whimsy, microcosm, and eccentricity in the natural world. Ironically, McDonnell’s first painting exhibited with the gallery was an indirect quotation, Alice and the Wonder Tree. Painting natural curiosities in an Old World medium like tempera helps McDonnel weave the colors she chooses together in a way unlike that of any other method.
Sullivan Goss is located at 7 E. Anapamu St.
