The 13th season of the Flamenco Arts Festival is coming to Santa Barbara on September 28 and 29! This year’s festival will feature Jesús Carmona y Compañía on Saturday, September 28 at the Granada, and a master class conducted by Carmona and Esther Estaban on Sunday, September 29 at Santa Barbara Dance Arts.
On Saturday, Compañía will perform as the principal dancer in the production of Cuna Negra and Blanca (Black and White Crib), which is described as “a study of the extremes of human nature” and promises to be a stunning display of Iberian culture. The dance does not have a traditional ending, or even a resolution, but is merely a study of the emotions that all humans struggle with, expressed through dance and music.
The Flamenco Arts Festival was founded in 1999 and has featured astounding performances by flamenco stars. It is also regarded by aficionados as one of the premier flamenco festivals in the United States. The festival is rich with Spanish culture, and provides a great opportunity for Santa Barbara locals to learn about the world of flamenco.
