Join the celebration of the capstone of Music Academy of the West’s Music Education Reinforces Intellect and Talent (MERIT) program, which selects young, talented musicians between the ages of 11 and 18 for a two-week stint of mentorship and masterclasses, taught by distinguished faculty and this year’s guest artist Brooklyn Rider, a heralded string quartet. Twenty-one gifted musicians—all under the age of twenty-one—will perform a free chamber music recital on Friday, July 12 at 12:30 p.m.
The following students showcased this year hail from local and surrounding areas: Anna Abondolo, Elisa Abondolo, Alexander Agate, Katrina Agate, Ashley Amaladhas, Matthew Berg, Bria Carucci, Ryan Dalforno, Alisa Deen, Sophia Emmons, Samuel Glicklich, Kyoko Kohno, Sophie Mengele, Jasmin Mould, Francis Pan, Kevin Park, Kiri Pitts, Connor Rowe, Chet Stussy, Amy Sze and Xeni Tziouvaras.
The students will play excerpts from almost a dozen dazzling composers, including Mozart, Haydn and Debussy, putting fresh faces to old classics. These are the rising stars of the classical music world, and an opportunity to see them before fame launches them sky-high is not to be missed.
Free parking is found on campus at 1070 Fairway Road in Santa Barbara. The event is located in Hahn Hall and a reception will follow on Lind Patio in the Luria Education Center. For tickets and information, call 805/969.8787 or visit the website.
