July 2–September 22 Labour and Wait

In an exhibit that brings 19th-century principles of virtue into the 21st century, the work of 15 internationally recognized artists and artist-collaboratives comprising Labour and Wait at Santa Barbara Museum of Art reflects today’s obsession with authenticity, craftsmanship and the handcrafted. Artists in the exhibition include seminal figures Wim Delvoye (Ghent), Tim Hawkinson (Los Angeles) and Grayson Perry (London), as well as emerging artists Theaster Gates (Chicago), Mika Rottenberg (New York) and Allison Smith (San Francisco). Also represented are Tonico Lemos Auad, Andrea Bowers, Colin Darke, Daniel Dewar and Gregory Gicquel, Peter Fischli and David Weiss, Josiah McElheny, Ricky Swallow, David Thorpe and Jane Wilbraham.
