“Honoring and remembering our mothers” was the theme for the 12th annual Mother’s Day Luncheon benefit for Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care, and as always, it truly was a lovely event.
Mistress of Ceremonies Catherine Remak shared a lovely remembrance of her late mother, and auctioneer Andrew Firestone did a great job with the live auction, which included an exclusive tour of the Reagan Ranch and Rancho Del Cielo, a private dinner for ten with Chef Dario Furlati of Ca’ Dario and tickets to the American Idol finale, among other high ticket items.
A delicious lunch at the Coral Casino was followed by moving tributes to moms.
Charles Browning remembered growing up on a Texas farm with his mother, the late Laverne Browning, saying “all who met her fell under her spell. And today we are still spellbound by her.” Laverne passed away in 2011 at 97 years young.
The still very vital and vibrant Barbara Ireland—who is probably best known for The Barbara Ireland Walk for Breast Caner Research, which just marked its 13th year—also received lovely tributes from her daughters Mary and Kathy, as well as lots of proud smiles from granddaughter Chloe.
“The thing about mom is, she always told us that it demonstrates great strength and toughness to choose to be kind,” said Kathy, whose older sister Cynthia also sent a loving written tribute to her mom.
Mother’s Day Luncheon Co-Chairs Pamela Dillman Haskell and Jodie Fishman-Osti did a terrific job with the annual event, which first took place in 2002, when Jane Habermann honored her mother Dorothy Backeller and Aris Demetros remembered his mother Virginia Lee Burton.
