As much as I love Buellton, making that winding (albeit scenic) drive to enjoy my favorite Figueroa Mountain brewski simply isn’t in the cards as often as I’d like it to be. If only there was a way to have all eight of its fantastic and award-winning beers (and maybe, say, 16 other options for when I’m feeling adventurous) right down the street.
Oh wait. There is.
Figueroa Mountain Brewing Company has come to the Funk Zone, and with the massive turnout on opening weekend, it’s pretty clear that its presence on Yanonali Street. was long awaited.
The rustic taproom—complete with patio, a beautiful line-up of rotating tap handles, and a view of the tanks at work—makes it feel like you’re sipping some suds in the Old West with a modern twist. Favorites such as Hoppy Poppy India Pale Ale (IPA) and Danish Red Lager will live alongside newly imagined brews and other specialty beers from Buellton. I recommend the Ginger Red and the Irish Stout currently rotating through the beers on tap.
“Santa Barbara will offer all-new ever-changing Fig brews crafted onsite—in addition to the eight core beers and Buellton specialties,” says Fig Mtn. brewmaster and barley-and-hops mastermind A.J. Stoll, who describes his feelings about the newly opened taproom as “pure excitement.”
Stoll, who will split his time between Buellton and Santa Barbara, only makes “beers I’d want to drink,” and therefore has a problem choosing his favorite. Seeing what he comes up with as the summer goes on (he’s hoping to never make the same beer twice, unless the public demands one in particular) will be exciting for the whole community. Grab a pint, a stein or a refillable growler of your Fig favorite today—or try a new one on for size.
Lucky for us, beer isn’t the only thing that the taproom will be serving up. Expect trivia nights, live music, bingo and other special events that’ll have you cheers-ing those next to you in happy comraderie—after all, you’ll all soon be regulars at this neighborhood joint.
“Get ready, Santa Barbara!” says Stoll.
I, for one, was born ready. Now where’s my pint?
