For the first time in its 18-year history, Santa Barbara’s State Street Ballet presents Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s holiday masterpiece The Nutcracker, a classic tale of adventure, fantasy, romance and the triumph of good over evil. With full symphony orchestra accompaniment from the Opera San Luis Obispo Orchestra, Brian Asher Alhadeff conducts the genius of Tchaikovsky. The Granada Theatre lights up for all three of its performances: Saturday, December 22 at 2 p.m. followed by an evening production at 7:30 p.m. The next day (Sunday, December 23) hosts The Nutcracker at 2:00 p.m.
A full cast of Gustafson Dance students will accompany State Street Ballet’s professional dancers throughout the show. The beloved Clara will be played alternately by students Julia DePaoli and Lily Conroy. Soloists are Kate Kadow as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Ryan Camou as the Nutcracker Prince.
Join the State Street Ballet inside the Granada Theatre in enjoying the choreography of artistic director Rodney Gustafson as well as the company’s Choreographer and Ballet Masters, Gary McKenzie and Marina Fliagina. Costume design is by A. Christina Giannini and Anaya Cullen.
