Great Jazz is coming to Santa Barbara in the 2012-2013 season! Starting off is guitarist Pat Metheny and Pat Metheny Unity Band performing at the Lobero September 27. They have a new sound, and new Metheny ensemble staring Chris Potter on sax and bass clarinet, Antonio Sanchez on drums, and Ben Williams on bass.
, one of the world’s pre-eminent jazz vocalists, performs next on October 19. Reeves is part of the group of great jazz singers such as Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. “Her three-plus octaves, diva-like delivery and intimate sense of a song have long made her one of the most compelling vocalists in jazz,” according to Seattle Times.

heads out on tour and performs at the Lobero January 14. On tour for its 55th
Anniversary Celebration, featuring its amazing band with bassist and musical director Christian McBride, vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater, saxophonist Chris Potter, trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, pianist Benny Green, and drummer Lewis Nash.
Wrapping up the Jazz line up are Brad Mehldau Trio
and The Bad Plus
taking the stage May 3. Pianist Brad Mehldau plays an array of music ranging from Thelonious Monk classics to contemporary music by Radiohead. The Bad Plus have a unique style of jazz, drawing audiences of both traditional and mainstream music. “If the Coen Brothers put together a jazz trio, perhaps it would be like [the Bad Plus], the comic and the dramatic rolled together”(The Guardian).
