Serving as this year’s Celebrity Grand Marshal, professional surfer, Lakey Peterson will participate in the 59^th Annual Downtown Holiday Parade in Santa Barbara.  On the 2^nd of December, the anticipated parade will march down State Street with bands, floats and other spectacular performance groups.

Since age 11, Santa Barbara resident, Lakey Peterson has been dominating the waves and is currently ranked 7^th in the world for surfing.  She competed as a wild card entry in the 2011 US Open of Surfing World Tour, the biggest surfing event in the world, where she finished runner-up in the finals, after winning 6 consecutive heats earlier in the event.  Peterson recently qualified for the 2012 ASP World Tour and will be the youngest competitor at the age of 17.

Surfing aside, Peterson participates in the community in other ways.  She is a spokesperson for the SCA (Student Conservation Association), which helps to keep national parks and trails pristine.  She has also helped raise funds for H4O (Hands for Others), an organization focusing on building clean water wells in third world countries.

The parade also features a Holiday Prince and Fairy riding in a horse-drawn carriage and the biggest anticipation of all- Santa Claus.

Peterson will hold a meet and greet at the Granada Theatre from 3:30 – 5 p.m. The parade, then, begins at 6:30 p.m. and best of all- it’s free!
