Renowned for his natural designs and contemporary jewelry, artist James Cleland has placed first in a juried international art competition sponsored by Art Buzz, a non-profit collective that links professional artists to art dealers, collectors, and art lovers worldwide. Cleland’s award-winning designs have now been published in
The 2012 Collection of Art Buzz, a 10”x 10” hardcover book available at www.ArtBuzz.org. More than 3,000 artists submitted works for the competition, yet only 106 were selected and featured in the 2012 edition.
Cleland’s natural designs create one-of-a-kind pieces, many with moving elements and “storytelling.” These works of art have been exhibited at Santa Barbara Museum of Art Gift Shop and the Wilding Art Museum in Los Olivos.
Cleland is a scientist with a creative twist, working as a jeweler for over thirty years. His inspiration comes from his life experiences and his degrees in the biosciences and geology. He combines natural design elements with historic Japanese symbolism to create contemporary jewelry with traditional images. James and his wife Ginger are proprietors of Designs in Gold, 1640 Copenhagen Drive, in Solvang.
