Seven students will receive Santa Barbara Dance Alliance Education Scholarships on July 19 in a special presentation at the Arts and Culture Center, located at 1330 State St, 2nd floor. The ceremony begins with a reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by the awards at 7 p.m.
Scholarship recipients include Eryn Osburn from Curtis Studio of Dance, Sarah Irene Block and Kira Hopkins from Gustafson Dance, Corrie Jimenez and Sofia Teresa Chicote Barnwell from Linda Vega Studio, Manon Taylor from Santa Barbara Dance Arts and Alyssa Sofia Nuno from Zermeno Dance Academy.
These seven students were recommended by their teachers to the scholarship competition based on their talent, dedication, and financial need, and participated in the auditions held May 20.
Albert Reid, a past member of an adjudication panel says, “As an adjudicator for Santa Barbara Dance Alliance scholarships, I was very impressed by the careful preparation these young dancers had gone through to choreograph their presentations, some of which were entirely original and some prepared collaboratively with their dance teachers, but all were performed with full commitment and engaging passion.”
The awardees will receive up to $400 each to continue their dance studies at local studios.
During the past nine years, Santa Barbara Dance Alliance has raised $75,850 to be able to award 176 scholarships to local dancers. The Dance Education Scholarship Program is supported by many individuals as well as foundations within the community.
