Santa Barbara’s Youth Making Change (YMC) celebrated the recipients of its 2011-2012 grants at an event earlier this month as part of its effort to address community issues concerning local youth. Launched in 2008 by the Fund for Santa Barbara, Youth Making Change is a teen-led program that awards grants to local groups working on raising awareness and improving social relations among teens. This year there were two YMC Boards: YMC North based in Santa Maria Valley and YMC South for southern Santa Barbara County.
Recipients for YMC South include Peer Buddy Volunteers, the 2nd Annual Week of Wellness & Nourishing Nights of Food and Film put on by the Santa Barbara High School Ready2Move Club, Santa Barbara City College IDEAS and UCSB Global Awareness Club.
In Youth Making Change’s northern program grants were awarded to programs such as Future Leaders of America, PUEBLO Santa Maria High School, PROUD People Respecting Others United by Diversity and Fighting Back Santa Maria Valley Youth Involvement Group.
