If one thing is true when it comes to your wardrobe, it’s that you can never have enough jewelry. Luckily for Santa Barbara, jewelry designer Daria de Koning is hosting an exclusive Couture Jewelry trunk show at the Hotel Californian‘s in-house boutique, Isla Boutique, on Friday, June 29, to Saturday, June 30 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
De Koning’s aptitude for creating beautiful pieces stems from her background in graphic design and art at Washington University in St. Louis and gemology at the Gemological Institute of America. Although originally beginning her career crafting custom engagement rings, de Koning’s love of painting drew her to the vibrancy of cabochon-cut stones.
In the world of gemology, a cabochon is a stone shaped and polished with a rounded top without a flat base. The cabochon-cut method is unique in the sense that it is the only method that is able to bring out various gems’ unique optical phenomena, such as the star, cat’s eye, and moonstone effect.
Her works, heavily influenced by her New York and Netherland background, reflect a uniquely delicate yet bold style, resulting in what she calls, “painting with gemstones”.
At her trunk show, guests are able to peruse her globally-inspired collections, available normally only by private appointment. These collections contain a carefully curated display of handcrafted necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.
To preview more of her work, visit de Koning’s website here or follow her on Instagram @dariadekoning.
De Koning’s intricate style has earned features from The Financial Times, The Huffington Post, Town & Country Weddings, New York Magazine, Marie Claire, O: The Oprah Magazine, and numerous others. Having also been listed as jewelry expert for Martha Stewart Weddings, de Koning consults with clients around the world for the perfect pieces to add to their wedding outfits.
This event is in partnership with the Maris Collective, a lifestyle and fashion retailer that offers customers a customized and meaningful experience.
The Isla Boutique is located inside the Hotel Californian at 36 State St., Santa Barbara.
