Veterans, their families, those currently serving in uniform and the community are invited to join the Pierre Claeyssens Veterans Foundation (PCVF) for a free ceremony honoring all of those who have lost their lives in military service to our country, taking place from 10 to 11 a.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, at the Santa Barbara Cemetery (901 Channel Dr., Santa Barbara).
“As citizens of Santa Barbara, we are fortunate to be able to come together as a community to participate in a time-honored tradition,” says United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Patricia Rumpza. “It’s a way to reflect on what it means to be an American and honor people who served, or are currently serving in places around the world, in order to protect the liberties we all enjoy.”
Air Force Colonel (Ret) and PCVF Board Chair, Philip J Conran, serves as the Master of Ceremonies for the event, which commences with the time-honored bagpipe procession played by Pipe Major Bill Boetticher and includes an impressive roster of speakers from several different branches of the military, as well as a performance by the Santa Barbara Choral Society.
U.S. Congressman Salud Carbajal (D-CA 24th District) has just joined the roster of speakers, as well.
Ample seating areas and parking are provided, however, early arrival is encouraged as the program begins promptly at 10 a.m. Guests are invited to purchase tickets for the PCVF Memorial Day Fundraiser Luncheon, taking place immediately following the ceremony.
