San Luis Obispo was recently recognized as one of the world’s 10 best Wine regions by Wine Enthusiast magazine. The publication has a circulation of more than 200,000 and an estimated readership of more than 900,000.

In the article, titled “10 Best Wine Getaways,” SLO Wine Country’s intimacy and excellence is showcased. It encourages readers to “get out and discover these exciting locales before the crowds set in.” Written and researched by Wine Enthusiast contributing editor Matt Kettman, he says that the region’s “elegant and often delicate Pinot Noirs and racy vibrant Chardonnays are found in the cool climes of the Edna and Arroyo Grande Valley’s and a smattering of coastal sites to the north around Cayucos and Cambria.”

The other nine wine regions spotlighted are: Melbourne, Australia; Hong Kong, China; Corsica, France; Sherry Triangle, Spain; Grand Valley, Colorado; Val d’Orcia, Tuscany, Italy; Styria, Austria; Cape Town, South Africa; and Southern Coast, Uruguay.

The SLO Wine Country section highlights local wineries such as Baileyana, Claiborne & Churchill Vintners, Chamisal Vineyards, Phantom Rivers Wine, and more. “On behalf of our members, it’s an honor to be listed alongside global winegrowing regions as one of the top 10 wine getaways,” says Heather Muran, executive director for SLO Wine Country. “We feel this will have a great impact on tourism locally and will encourage wine enthusiasts to travel here and explore the SLO Coast.”
