Westmont College celebrates its 80th anniversary by hosting a variety of events at Homecoming from October 13-15. This includes Westmont’s 80th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, October 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Fess Parker DoubleTree Resort (633 E. Cabrillo Blvd.).
The special anniversary festivities begin in the outside rotunda and move inside the grand ballroom for dinner and a program to recognize 80 alumni honorees. The Young Alumni and Student Dance follows at 9:30 p.m.
The celebration features President Gayle D. Beebe and his inspiring story about Roger Voskuyl, the college’s third president. The Westmont Jazz Band plays during the outdoor reception, and alumnus David Britton performs, as well as the Chamber Singers, during dinner.
Westmont’s Young Alumni Association is inviting all alumni and current junior/senior students to attend the outdoor dance.
Other Homecoming events include the dedication of the Global Leadership Center, All-Alumni Barbecue Lunch, Kid’s Fair, Young Alumni Tailgate, men’s and women’s soccer games, chapel service with alumnus Steve Yamaguchi and the All-Alumni Worship Celebration featuring Campus Pastor Ben Patterson, who is retiring at the end of the academic year. There are also faculty lectures for alumni by Cynthia Toms, associate professor of global studies and kinesiology, and Greg Spencer, professor of communication studies.
