The opening reception for Rendition: A Surrender, Translation, or Interpretation will take place on Thursday, October 5 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. in the 10 West Art Gallery (10 W. Anapamu St.).
Rendition features a nine-person group of eclectic artists. Sophie MJ Cooper is a Santa Barbara based artist that translates urban landscapes like that of New York City into stunning oil on canvas pieces. Karen Zazon is a local artist that focuses on the nebulous space between abstraction and actuality. Marlene Struss paints awe-inspiring abstracts. Laurie MacMillian paints abstracts as well but her pieces are firmly rooted in her love of nature, decay and rebirth. Lisa Pedersen paints landscapes and draws inspiration from the idyllic backdrop of Santa Barbara and Orcas Island. Pat McGinnis works with a different medium than the aforementioned artists. She sculpts abstract forms to express the nuances and conflicts of human relationships.
Guest Artists to compliment the central nine will include three new artists. Marilyn Helsenrott Hocchauser showcases her series of bold black and white charcoal drawings. Carol Paquet creates images that bridge the divide between abstract and nature. Ann Shelton Beth makes abstract paintings that speak of the sky and the sea and traditionalism and modernism.
