Ozomatli, a Los Angeles based music group, is back in town and performing at the Lobero Theatre (33 E. Canon Perdido St.) October 19 at 8 p.m. They are touring for their latest album, Non-Stop: Los Angeles → Mexico → Kingston.
Ozomatli produces music that reflects Los Angeles’ eclectic culture, drawing influence from the local community and global lifestyles. Ozomatli’s impressive repertoire pulls from a variety of genres, such as classic to modern Latino, urban hip-hop and jazz-funk!
Ozomatli catapulted to the top of the live music scene with the first self-titled album, leading to the opportunity of opening for Carlos Santana’s Supernatural tour. Ozomatli’s sophomore album, Embrace the Chaos, earned a Grammy award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album. The follow up album, Street Signs, won both the same award and the Latin Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 2005.
Non-Stop features classic Mexican hits that are reimagined with a reggae twist. It pays homage to Ozomatli’s Latin roots, allowing them to personalize favorite songs from their childhood. Produced by drum & bass reggae legends Sly & Robbie, and featuring high profile guest vocalists, the album channels Caribbean music and a reggae dancehall vibe.
Tickets for the show are available here, or by calling the Lobero Box Office at 805/963.0761.
