Santa Barbara’s State Street Ballet performs at the International Ballet Gala in Santiago, Chile this August. Dancers are performing alongside other artists from around the globe, including dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet, The Royal Ballet and New York City Ballet. These are some of the most distinguished ballet companies in the world, and 10 out the 25 dancers involved are from State Street Ballet!
State Street Ballet was founded in 1994 and consistently produces versatile performances using classic technique and innovative choreography. These dancers represent Santa Barbara in a beautiful program full of diversity and extraordinary technical level.
The dancers represent 12 different countries, including Principal Dancers from The Royal Ballet of London, Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet, Staatsballett Berlin, Joffrey Ballet of Chicago and New York City Ballet. State Street Ballet is performing original works from their diverse and innovative repertoire. There is also a special educational outreach performance, allowing youth of the community to experience music through the magic of dance. These performances are sure to inspire future generations of performance artists.
State Street Ballet is also represented by lighting designer Sammy Jelinek, Managing Director Tim Mikel and Artistic Director Rodney Gustafson, who will lead a discussion and seminar on the relevancy of the performing arts in today’s global marketplace. Gustafson is also teaching a master class for the international cadre of dancers assembled for this global celebration of unity.
State Street Ballet dancers are performing excerpts from Five by Gershwin by resident choreographer William Soleau, Common Ground by Edgar Zendejas, and (con)version by Kassandra Taylor Newberry. The International Ballet Gala is a visually striking display of art and talent, showcasing dancers with elegance and grace.
