The final film in this summer’s entertaining film series, 007: Bond, James Bond, is Skyfall, starring Daniel Craig as James Bond. The last chance to attend the film series is Wednesday, August 23, at 7:30 p.m. at UCSB Campbell Hall and Friday, August 25, at 8:30 p.m. at the Santa Barbara County Courthouse Sunken Garden. Arrive early for a Bond-themed live DJ set by DJ Darla Bea, beginning at 7 p.m.
Skyfall commences with a riotous chase scene in Istanbul through crowded bazaars, and ends with an impressive shootout in the Scottish Highlands. The plot is action-packed as undercover agents around the world are exposed and 007 must take to the shadows to track down and destroy the threat. Javier Bardem gives a chilling performance as sinister villain Raoul Silva, a cerebral criminal mastermind. He has stolen the identities of every MI6 agent in a revenge plot against M, played by Judi Dench. Bond investigates the case, taking him to the most exotic corners on Earth–Shanghai, Macau, Glencoe. As with all Bond movies, the story tiptoes the line between realism and over-embellishment but Sam Mendes expertly directs to keep Skyfall a smart, sexy and riveting thriller.
To fully enjoy this movie experience bring blankets, low-back beach chairs, a picnic dinner or snacks and your friends! Filmgoers start setting up on the lawn at noon on the day of the Courthouse screenings. Arrive early to find the best spots for this favorite Santa Barbara summer pastime!
