On Saturday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 14 at 2 p.m., State Street Ballet presents Modern Masters, choreographed by William Soleau, Gina Patterson, Kevin Jenkins and Cecily Stewart at the New Vic (33 W. Victoria St.).
An extensive blend of contemporary movement, Modern Masters follows 2016’s highly-praised production, Women’s Work, described by the Santa Barbara Independent as “a bold new step for both the company and the dance community.”
Artistic Director Rodney Gustafson describes the show as “not your grandmother’s ballet,” with choreographers working together from all over the country, including Soleau from New York, Patterson from Jackson Hole, Jenkins from Boston and Stewart from Santa Barbara.
On Saturday, the program will celebrate famed dance photographer Rose Eichenbaum’s 20-year relationship with State Street Ballet and her new book, Inside the Dancer’s Art. After Sunday’s show, audiences will be able to attend a discussion with the choreographers.
