The Santa Barbara Dance Institute (SBDI) presents The Letter, an original piece written by Rosalina Macisco and choreographed by SBDI, on Wednesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. at Solvang Elementary School (565 Atterdag Rd., Solvang) and on Sunday, May 21 at 4 p.m. at the Marjorie Luke Theatre (721 E. Cota St.).

The “event-of-the-year” features sound design by Michael Mortilla, and tells the story of a father writing to his eight-year-old son, Sam, on his first day back to school. The father tells Sam about his own elementary bullies and what he would have done differently. Both the audience and Sam undergo different situations based on his father’s experiences, revealing that childhood scars can boost confidence and help a person embrace his or her own uniqueness.
