The 41st annual May Madness estate sale event takes place from 9 a.m. — 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 6. The proceeds from this event benefit the Music Academy of the West’s full scholarship program.
This year, the Women’s Auxiliary of the Music Academy of the West has selected Evie Vesper to organize the May Madness event. May Madness is organized by the Women’s Auxiliary of the Music Academy of the West, one of the largest and most successful supporting volunteer organizations in Santa Barbara. Vesper has been a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Music Academy of the West since 2013 and led the fundraising effort once before in 2015.
“I’m excited to chair May Madness again. Having chaired two years ago I was impressed with the collaboration of the Music Academy Administration and the Women’s Auxiliary. There’s a spirited energy that will create a successful and fun event,” says Vesper. “We look forward to community support as we know how many treasures can be found at May Madness.”
The fundraising efforts from the auxiliary generate more than $200,000 each year to support the full scholarship program at the Academy. The scholarships allow 140 outstanding fellows from around the world to study in Santa Barbara each summer.
There are thousands of items for sale of May Madness including furniture, area rugs, small kitchen appliances, kitchenware, garden accessories, linens, antiques, silver, crystal, china, art, collectives, clothing, luggage, sports equipment and many other goods. To contribute items to the event, they must be clean and in good condition. If those who want to contribute do not have goods that are up to par, tax deductible donations are accepted.
