Patagonia comes to Santa Barbara for a screening of the film Fishpeople. Fishpeople narrates the lives of people who have an intimate and encompassing relationship with the ocean. Santa Barbara was selected as one of the 13 cities along the tour, due in part to the intrinsic proximity and importance of the Pacific Ocean to many in the area.
Within the film, people dedicate their entire lives to the sea in diverse ways. From surfers and spear-fishers to a long-distance swimmer, from a former coal miner to a group of at-risk kids on the streets of San Francisco, it’s a film about the transformative effects of time spent in the ocean, and leaving behind limitations to find deeper meaning in the saltwater wilderness that lies just beyond the shore.
Fishpeople arrives to The Sandbox (414 Olive St.) April 21 at 7:30 p.m. The event requires no money down, but the film is sure to buoy your spirits.
