First Thursday returns again to liven up Downtown Santa Barbara. On Thursday, May 4, Downtown Santa Barbara celebrates local art and culture with many events, including a Pop-Up Opera, Quire of Voyces Short Program Concert and Family 1st Thursday.

The Pop-Up Opera is a crowd-pleasing event in that takes place in the Santa Barbara Museum of Art galleries. Starting at 5:30 p.m,  Opera Santa Barbara will weave through the museum delighting guests with music.

Another musical rendition is the Quire of Voyces Short Program Concert. The group returns to the Santa Barbara Museum of Art from 6:30-7 p.m. to perform a short program of choral music. The group was founded in 1993 to reinvigorate the sacred a capella choral music of the Renaissance and the modern age.

1st Thursday would not be complete without Family 1st Thursday. From 5:30-7:30 p.m., families can gather in the Santa Barbara Museum of Art’s Family Resource Center. Museum teaching artists will assist families in making special exhibition inspired art projects.
