America, the 70s rock band renowned for their song “A Horse With No Name,” will perform their greatest hits on Friday, April 21 at 8 p.m. at the Chumash Casino Resort’s Samala Showroom (3400 Hwy. 246).
The founding members of America are Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell and the late Dan Peek. They all met at sons of U.S. Air Force personnel stationed in London. The trio were musically inclined and began to make music together as a group and perform live. They chose the name “America” to avoid any suspicions that they were three British teens attempting to have an American sound.
The group established their unique folk rock sound and worked their way to the top of the charts. The band is known today as one of the greatest in rock and roll history. They produced hit songs like “I Need You,” “Ventura Highway,” “Don’t Cross The River,” “Tin Man,” “Lonely People,” and “Sister Golden Hair.” Today, the group still tours more than 40 years later and rocks arenas across the globe.
