Wouldn’t living a dog’s life for one day be nice? Moseying around, sampling anything and everything that interests you, relaxing yourself in the laid-back chairs for as long as you’d like, or even shaking your back end whenever you please. Well, Solvang’s Wandering Dog Wine Bar not only welcomes you to live that de-stressed and mellow life, but also encourages you to bring your four-legged friends along with you!
Something this amazing sounds too-good-to-be-true, but it couldn’t be a more-perfect fit in Solvang’s fairy tale setting. Among the cottages, charming restaurants, and mystical shops in this “Little Denmark” town at 539 C. Mission Dr., is Santa Barbara County’s longest-operating Wine Bar, committing itself whole-heartedly to providing the best hospitality and magical experiences to locals and visitors.
Founded in 2007, The Williams Family built the Wandering Dog upon the understanding that there truly is “no place like home,” and “family” includes more than just those who walk on two legs. Celebrating 10 years of bringing exquisite hospitality, boutique and world-wide wines, and delectable dishes that satisfy any appetite, The Williams Family reflects on the growth of The Wandering Dog by hosting special events and promotions this April.
Co-owners Jody and CT Williams just introduced their newest venture, “Broken Clock Vinegar Works.” Yep, if they have not already thought of it all, the pioneers are now including a line of drinking vinegars that are available at the Bar as a tasting, or as individual-purchase shrub “cocktails.” With so many options to choose from, the menu may overwhelm you at first, but the knowledgeable staff not only that serves you unexpected, blossoming wines, but also a healthy dose of friendly wine “schooling” in a relaxed and comfortable, dog-friendly atmosphere.
Starting Saturday, April 1, the Wandering Dog wine bar will begin celebrating its success and highly respected reputation by running the $10-by-the-glass wine specials every month for the remainder of the year! Featuring different wines every month, visitors will be able to soak their taste buds in a rainbow of different flavors of wine from local boutiques or international producers. Introducing this spectacular series, is the Wandering Dog’s FIRST-EVER wine, (produced by winemaker Norm Yost) under their rapidly expanding private label program: The “Leila” Pinot Noir. The name itself already sends your mind traveling into a burgundy wonderland of fruity aromas, so just wait to see what it does to your taste buds during the Release Party which runs from noon to 4 p.m at the Wandering Dog.
Only a week later on April 8, the Williams Family hosts an “official” 10-Year Anniversary party for the whole family! For only $10 per adult and $5 per child (under 10 years of age), strap the kids into the van and head over to Solvang’s Hans Christian Anderson Park (633 Chalk Hill Rd.) from 1-4 p.m. for an afternoon of festivities. Allow the kids to play games and enjoy the barbecued food while the bigger kids savor a delicious meal and overflowing options of beers and wines.
For you wine experts out there who are very familiar with “Thirsty Thursdays,” every Thursday from 4-7 p.m., the Wandering Dog hosts a “Blind Tasting,” challenging your ability to match up regions, varietals, alcohol percentages, price points, and vintages of four-featured red wines. The Bar also features a Wine-by-the-Glass loyalty card program (buy 10 glasses; get one free) and often, wine classes. Wandering Dog also arranges wine travel tours open to its dedicated Wine Club Members and the general public.
Building on the excitement, every Monday evening from 4-8 p.m., The Wandering Dog hosts a “Game Night” that literally has guests screaming, “Yahtzee!” While enjoying $5 specials on a select white wine, red wine, “shrubtail” and beer, everyone is welcome to participate in games such as Backgammon, Chinese Checkers, Dominos, and more.
Don’t miss out on the excitement and join The Wandering Dog as it says “Cheers!” to 10 years of amazing service!
