Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is Small Business Saturday, on November 26. Founded by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday encourages customers to shop at small businesses and Downtown Santa Barbara begins the holiday season by promoting this retail holiday.
Kate Schwab, Downtown Santa Barbara Marketing & Communication Director, states, “We have such a diverse and unique blend of small businesses here. It is a pleasure to support our many small businesses and promote them as great places to shop, eat or visit.”
This year’s participants include more than 50 small businesses downtown, including retailers, restaurants, spas, coffee shops and more. Some businesses are featuring discounts and promotions to honor this holiday. Los Arroyos Mexican Restaurant & Take Out (14 W. Figueroa St.) is giving a free fountain drink with an entrée purchase. Discounts of up to 50% off men’s and women’s clothing are at Malulani (1014 State St.). The Book Den (15 E. Anapamu St.) is holding drawings for two $100 gift cards. The Dutch Bakery & Restaurant (1106 State St.) gives another food promotion, free butter cookies with any meal purchase.
At the Small Business Saturday (SBS) Welcome Station (Marshalls Patio, 900 State St.), customers will be given Shop Small tote bags, balloons and dog bandanas by Downtown Santa Barbara staff. Schwab says, “We’re encouraging Shop Small customers to post or tweet where they are shopping or dining throughout the day, using #ShopSmall, #SmallBizSat and #DowntownSB.”
SBS also presents music by Holiday Horns from noon to 2 p.m., a book-signing of 100 Things to do in Santa Barbara Before You Die by author Tara Jones from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and free gift wrapping by LifeChronicles from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
