UCSB Arts & Lectures presents The Ensemble Basiani of Georgia, adept performers of Georgia’s ancient polyphonic tradition, at Old Mission Santa Barbara (2201 Laguna St.) this Sunday, October 23 in two enthralling performances—one at 4 p.m. and one at 7 p.m.

Ensemble Basiani is a world-renowned group with many prized accolades. In 2013, the Georgian government named Ensemble Basiani the State Ensemble of Georgian Folk Singing. Ensemble Basiani has performed in some of the world’s most venerated halls and acclaimed festivals including the Gulbenkian Great Hall in Lisbon, Concertgebouw in AmsterdamAuditorio Nacional de Musica in Madrid and the Aldeburgh Music Festival in Aldeburgh, England. Alongside their notable cosmopolitan performances, the ensemble has released nine albums, including their amazing four disc album 102 Georgian Folk Songs and Traditional Hymns.

Experience the Ensemble Basiani of Georgia perform astonishing renditions of epic ballads, religious hymns, monastic chant and folk songs from the SouthWest region of Georgia (modern day Turkey) in the magnificent Old Mission Santa Barbara.
