The Postcards of Santa Barbara Public Art Mural Project is a one-of-a-kind collaboration between the Santa Barbara Art community and the city of Santa Barbara. Carefully selected artists are creating 16 murals that represent the best days of our lives in Santa Barbara. These murals, created in the Community Arts Workshop (CAW), located at 631 Garden St., will serve to beautify the lower block of State Street. For one year, the murals will cover the construction project that is taking place across the street from the Indigo Hotel.
Artists Anke Gladnick, Aviel Hyman, Barbara Eberhart, Danny Meza, David Diamant, Earl Arnold, Jess Nieuhues, Jonathon Hernandez, Kathee Christie, Lauren Manzo, Maryvonne Laparliere, Matt Rodriguez, Metrov, Rafael Perea De La Cabada, Sara Wilcox, Shannon McCain Jaffe, Yanely Delgado, and assistants Victoria Cutbirth and Madison Dykstra, are working hard every day to finish the murals for the big unveiling.
The murals and other paintings cover the walls of the CAW building: “Sometimes the artists get bored and paint the walls. Every day you come in and there’s something new on the walls,” says Youth Interactive Founder and President, Nathalie Gensac.
Judges Ginny Brush, Sharyn Main, Robert Adams, Helene Schneider, Nathalie Gensac and Christie Gallagher will be giving 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes to three talented artists. The 1st prize will receive $1,000, 2nd will receive $500, and 3rd will receive $250. A grant given to Youth Interactive will provide the prize money.
After the unveiling, the public is welcome to join Mayor Helene Schneider and Youth Interactive patron Michael McDonald for a big celebration outside the Indigo Hotel. The celebration will include music from a Mariachi band, canapes, and a street performance by the La Boheme Professional Dance Group.
The ceremony begins at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 5 at the Indigo Hotel, located at 121 State St. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
