Celebrate the late and legendary Elvis Presley's 80th birthday with the Plaza Playhouse Theater (4916 Carpinteria Ave, Carpinteria) on January 10 at 7 p.m. as they screen the extended cut of the popular 1968 "Elvis" TV Special.
The special aired once on NBC-TV on December 3, 1968, includes all of Elvis' #1 hits, and runs for 90 minutes. Showcasing Elvis at his prime, "The Comeback Special" is responsible for Elvis' return to popularity as "the King of Rock and Roll." The celebration will allow attendees to get acquainted with Steve Binder, the special's producer and director. Binder will conduct a Q & A after the screening and will speak about his relationship with Presley and the making of the special.
"Elvis 68 at 40 — A Retrospective," by Binder, will be sold and signed at the screening. The book is no longer in print and includes many unpublished photographs of the King. Proceeds of the screening will benefit Plaza Playhouse Theater's "Wide Screen" campaign and "will be the final push for the money to buy the big screen and all the accessories needed to complete the experience,” says board member Peter Bie.
