The Getty Foundation recently announced that the Santa Barbara Museum of Art (1130 State St) was awarded a grant to take part in the art exhibit “Pacific Standard Time: Los Angeles/Latin America.” It is an exploration of Latin American and Latino art and is planned to run in September 2017.
Brazillian-born artist Valeska Soares has been chosen to create for this exhibition. She makes environmental installations that use features like light and scent to explore how viewers experience time. She will be resurrecting her past installations Vanishing Point (1999-2000), Narcissus (2005) and Un-Rest (2010).
Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA aims to celebrate the birth of the Los Angeles art scene and Southern California’s Latin American heritage.
