Marcia Burtt Studio downtown (517 Laguna St., 805/962-5588, open 10 a.m. -6 p.m. Monday through Saturday) presents two solo exhibitions that embody contrasting approaches to contemporary landscape painting with an Artists’ Reception on Saturday, February 1, 4-6 p.m.
According to a statement from Burtt, “Ian Roberts‘ paintings give us expansive views incorporating light and shade on buildings, fields, and water with a quality of stillness reminiscent of Northern Renaissance paintings. Quietude and tight composition play against loose brushwork, flat planes in space, and a bright, modern palette to create a pleasurable counterpoint between classic and contemporary aesthetic.
“In her ‘From the Mud’ series, Marilee Krause uses another kind of counterpoint to play off flat leaves against murky depths. Using watercolor and pastel on paper allows her to dramatize atmospheric washes with dynamic lines and precise edges.”
The work is on view through March 9. For more information please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
