Avante-Garde Cinema Trilogy and Premiere

Posted on Jan 23 by SEASONS Magazine

UCSB Arts and Lectures presents an all-day concert cinema marathon experience of the Qatsi Trilogy by director Godfrey Reggio and composer Philip Glass on Saturday, January 25 at the Arlington Theatre.

The Qatsi Trilogy includes Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance (1982), Powaqqatsi: Life in Transformation (1988). and Naqoygatsi: Life as War (2002) plus Reggio’s newest film, Visitors. These wordless, moving films composed of photos and music are a bold new form of avante-garde cinema that help question the world in which we live and the norms of our everyday lives.

“Each film reverses the saying, ‘a picture is worth  thousand words’ by offering a thousand images to convey the power of one word.” -Reggio

The films will be shown in succession beginning at 1 p.m. with Visitors screening at 8 p.m.
