Looking to add some culture to your life? Head to Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA) for its newest exhibition! Photographic artist John Divola will display a career-spanning presentation of his work at SBMA from October 13, 2013 through January 12, 2014. The exhibition, titled As Far As I Could Get, will also be shown at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and Pomona College Museum of Art (PCMA) simultaneously.
Divola received his BA at California State University, Northridge and then went on to receive his MFA at the University of California, Los Angeles. There, Divola developed his personal and unique photographic practices. While Divola’s life work boasts a wide range of photographs, the intellectual rigor from which they come from does not vary. His work is both fun and philosophical, making it visually appealing as well as intellectually stimulating.
Divola’s career spans four decades, and his influence in the field of photography is widely recognized by critics, curators, photographers and scholars across the country—yet his work is still widely undercelebrated. This exhibition not only gives him a chance to show off his work, but also gives the public a chance to see what an amazing artist he truly is.
