Music is in the air this weekend, especially with the opening of Music Academy of the West‘s Summer Festival, jam-packed with performances, masterclasses and recitals by some of today’s most noteworthy musicians and vocalists. On June 22 at 8 p.m., the Summer Festival kicks off with its opening performance, with seasoned festival-opening conductor Larry Rachleff leading the orchestra.
The exemplary live melodies of Bartók‘s The Miraculous Mandarin, Debussy‘s La Mer and Ravel‘s Viennese waltz La Valse will resound throughout the beautiful Granada Theatre, under the direction of Rachleff. Rachleff brings an impressive level of musical mastery with him, having served as music director for Rhode Island Philharmonic, Rice University‘s Shepherd School Orchestra, Oberlin Conservatory and Chicago Philharmonic, as well as guest conducting for several other major orchestras. Rachleff has conducted opening concerts for the last five Music Academy of the West Summer Festivals, and the musical community is eagerly awaiting his return.
Grab your tickets for opening night before they’re gone, and be sure to check out the full listing of Music Academy of the West events for their festival season, running from now until August 10. Over 200 events are scheduled for the festival season, including some re-workings of classical pieces and a West Coast premiere. Check back on our blog for updates.
