Music Academy of the West brings preeminent artists to Santa Barbara each year, and this year is one for the ages. This summer, Glenn Dicterow will join us as a visiting artist and, beginning in 2014, he will become a formal faculty member. A graduate of Juilliard School, Dicterow is a world-renowned violist who is most famous for being the longest-serving concertmaster on the New York Philharmonic.
Based in Santa Barbara and founded in 1947, Music Academy of the West is one of the country’s most prestigious summer schools and festivals. Young classical musicians who attend the school study and perform under the guidance of international faculty artists, guest conductors and soloists. In 2014, Dicterow will join this elite faculty and will aid the Music Academy of the West by offering individual teaching for Fellows, coaching chamber ensemble, performing for the faculty chamber series and developing a String Leadership Studies Program.
Dicterow shares our excitement, stating, “I couldn’t be happier about my appointment to one of the finest summer music festivals in the world.”
Indeed, we are thrilled to have Dicterow join our Santa Barbara community! To find out more information regarding Dicterow’s summer performances, as well as the other 200 public events that the Music Academy of the West presents each year, click here.
