If you care about the environment and love art, this is the perfect exhibition for you! Art From Scrap (AFS), a ReUse retail store and Arts Center, helps tens of thousands of students throughout Santa Barbara County to understand the importance of conserving their environment, their focus being on the famous mantra Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
This Friday, November 16, from 6 to 8 p.m., they present The New Oceanscapes, an invitational art exhibition and sale, juried by Charles Donelan of the Santa Barbara Independent, Kip Fulbeck of UCSB and Nathan Hayden of Santa Barbara City College.
Sponsored by Summerland Winery, it will feature the work of ten local assemblage artists: Bessie Kunath, Rimas Simaitis, Tim Brown, Sommer Sheffield, Chris Silva, Ryan Bulis, Jack Fulton, Karen Lehrer, Kit Rosenberg and Erick Andino.
Celebrated artists Joe Shea, Dug Uyesaka and Jeanine Brinkman will unveil the redesigned Hollister Family Awards on the evening of show, which will be awarded to three of the ten artists.
Chris Silva and Ashley Woods Hollister, the curators of The New Oceanscapes, hope that the exhibition will create a dialogue not only about the repurposing of materials, but also about our ecological relationship to everything on this planet.
The exhibition will only last until December 15, so be sure to make room on your calendar. Viewing amazing art and saving the environment —what could be more perfect?
